DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – THE TRUTH (Who wins the book?)

OUR LAST POST WAS: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – Win an autographed copy of the book.

We’re going to try something different this post. If you have read my prior blogs on domestic violence or are familiar with my website, you may be able to find certain “errors” in this message. Granted, they are intentional. The post will be up for about 48 hours, at which time the correct information will be posted.  The one to find the most errors will be eligible to win an autographed copy of my book, ORANGE BLOSSOM WISHES: Child Molested, Woman Abused―Her Victorious Journey to Freedom. Find them all? First one gets the book.

Here’s how you can win. “Like” the blog post, then go to the far right column, click on “Go to Carolyn’s Website.” Once there, click on “Contact Us” and enter all the errors you found. Be sure you leave me a first name and e-mail address where you can be contacted (Nobody will be added to an e-mail address list! You’re safe). This will keep everything personal and confidential. I will contact the winner for mailing information as to where to ship the book, and post a name for the winner later this week.

REMEMBER, YOU ONLY HAVE UNTIL MONDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 21 TO GET YOUR ANSWERS IN. SO, HERE WE GO:

Domestic violence is no respecter of persons. It has no regard for what race, gender, nationality or religion you might be. Neither does sexual abuse nor assault. Matter of fact, every two (2) hours in the United States someone is sexually assaulted. If you do not find that astonishing enough, consider the fact that 1 in every 12 women in the nation will, at some time or another, find herself the victim of abuse and/or domestic violence.

We take this seriously. That is why we will be constructing a Victim Support page soon to the websitea place where victims and survivors alike will be able to find links to various agencies and organizations, along with the DV Hotline number.

You can find Carolyn’s story of hope, restoration, faith and healing in her highly acclaimed book, so be sure to check out her book, Orange Blossom Dreams.

You deserve a life free of domestic violence. Jealousy is not love. Domestic violence is usually a sign of anger or inability to keep one’s temper under control. Even though it may be very rare, a threat of pet abuse might be a sign for concern. Silence is one of the greatest enemies of domestic violence. But, before you begin planning to leave, be sure to develop a safety plan. With or without children, it is mandatory. Call an agency and ask for their help, or check the links on the website.

AND HERE IS THE CORRECT VERSION:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – THE TRUTH

Domestic violence is no respecter of persons. It has no regard for what race, gender, nationality or religion you might be. Neither does sexual abuse or assault. Matter of fact, every two (2) hours in the United States someone is sexually assaulted. (Read it again. Every 2 MINUTES in the U.S., someone is sexually assaulted…not hours, but minutes). If you do not find that astonishing enough, consider the fact that 1 in every 12 women in the nation will, at some time or another, find herself the victim of abuse and/or domestic violence. (Another startling statistic―1 in every three (3―not 12―but 3!) women in the nation will, at some time or another, find herself the victim of abuse and/or domestic violence)

We take this seriously. That is why we will be constructing a Victim Support page soon to the websitea place where victims and survivors alike will be able to find links to various agencies and organizations, along with the DV Hotline number. (If you are familiar with our website, you should be aware the Victim Support page has been up and running for a long time. Who knows, maybe you even put it to use to help become free from your own trap of domestic violence or sexual abuse. If so, we’d love to have your feedback. Click on “Contact Us” and drop me a line. It’s confidential.).

You can find Carolyn’s story of hope, restoration, faith and healing in her highly acclaimed book, so be sure to check out her book, Orange Blossom Dreams. (This should be easy―the title is Orange Blossom WISHES, rather than Dreams).

You deserve a life free of domestic violence. Jealousy is not love. Domestic violence is usually a sign of anger or inability to keep one’s temper under control. (Go back and read the blog post – Domestic Violence is More Than Just a Bad Temper). Even though it may be very rare, a threat of pet abuse might be a sign for concern. (Pet abuse, or even threats to abuse or kill the family pet, is usually one of the first signs to look for.)

Silence is one of the greatest enemies of domestic violence. But, before you begin planning to leave, be sure to develop a safety plan. With or without children, it is mandatory. Call an agency and ask for their help, or check the links on the website. This is all fact. (By the way, the links are on the “Victim Support” page of the website). Silence is one of the worst enemies of domestic violence and/or sexual abuse/assault. But―be sure you make a safety plan before trying to break free. And remember, if you have small children―domestic/intimate partner violence most often only escalates, and rarely gets better. Your children learn the environment in which they live, and learn the lifestyle they see going on around them. Residuals can be emotional or mental setbacks/illness, or the likelihood of learning and replicating the same actions against others. Violence is never the answer, and they must learn that they have the right to be free from it, as well.

So, what errors did you find, and what did you learn?

The Book

Thanks for participating in this interactive exercise. Even if you are not the recipient of the book, you are a winner just for reading and sharing the contents of Orange Blossom Wishes and this blog!
